We met just one year before the our marriage, on Travis' dairy farm, where I was building the heifer barn, oddly enough. We didn't talk at first, because we are quite shy at times. He smiled all the time, even when he was shoveling manure out of the barn, so of course I wanted to talk to the farmer's "smiley son." We bonded over a loaf of bread that I made (I was a baker at the time, now a train dispatcher.)
Once I got the nerve to give him my number and he finally called two days later (after much prodding from a mutual friend) we became close to inseparable and decided in February on an October wedding.
It was tough for us to decide where to spend the few days that we had available for our honeymoon; Vegas and Miami sounded fun, but way too hectic for country bumpkins, and our original idea of Pennsylvania didn't have quite what we were looking for.
We started searching for places on the Internet just one month before our wedding! We happened to come across the very site that you're on now, and immediately knew that this was the place for us - amazingly, the Ranch had a double room available and the airfares to Arizona were very reasonable.
Although his family owns 1300 dairy cows, Travis had never ridden a horse, and the fact that the Ranch welcomes beginners was a huge plus. We could tell the difference in the landscape as soon as we got over Twin Peaks. While driving through Tucson, it was hard to imagine that there was a ranch or national park in the area. The moment we drove through the gates at White Stallion we were in awe of the natural beauty around us.
Being from Vermont, we had never seen a cactus, and certainly not thousands at one time. The pictures can't possibly do the land or the Ranch justice. The buildings are beautiful and rustic at the same time, with all the comforts you could hope for at a resort. We were not expecting the luxury and service that we found.
The wranglers, office staff and waitstaff are all very friendly and kind. We especially enjoyed two wranglers - Lindsay, because she is from our small state of vermont and we had fun trying to find people we knew in common, and Carol, who was the most knowledgeable horse person we'll ever meet.
The time at the ranch was as close to pefect as a vacation can be, you literally forget the stresses of everyday life because you feel so far from it. The next time we're able to get away from the farm, I'm sure this will be our destination - - - if we can get someone to take care of the horse that Travis now wants!
